How does the treatment work? Laser energy removes the top most layer of skin.
As the skin is regenerated, discoloration, wrinkles or other marks will be diminished or in many cases, eliminated.
Your medical practitioner can tailor the depth of the peel and recovery time to your individual needs by adjusting the laser
power settings. Some patients choose to have fewer deep treatments with longer recovery times, while others wish to
have more light treatments with shorter recovery times. Your individual needs should be discussed with your treatment
provider prior to your peel.
How many peels do I need to achieve results? The typical client
needs to have 3-5 peels to obtain dramatic results. However, you will see progressive improvements after each treatment.
What type of laser is used? At Sierra Cosmetic Laser we use the Venus laser produced
by Iridex (formerly Laserscope), Inc. This instrument is a 2039nm wavelength Erbium:YAG laser. You can
find out more about the Venus and Iridex on their website at www.iridex.com.
How long does it take to complete a skin peel? The procedure itself takes about
30 to 45 minutes. Prior to starting treatment, the skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic which takes about 30
minutes to one hour. Your provider will let you know how long to expect your treatment to last.
What
skin concerns can be addressed? Many facial conditions such as fine wrinkling around the eyelids, forehead,
nose and mouth can be smoothed with this simple process. Deep laugh and frown lines can be minimized. Even lingering
effects of chicken pox, acne scars, superficial pigmented lesions and other surface abnormalities can be successfully treated.
Does the treatment hurt? The use of topical anesthetics should eliminate most, if not
all, discomfort during the procedure. Many people describe each laser pulse as feeling like the snap of a rubber band
against their skin. Your individual needs or concerns should be discussed with your treatment provider prior to treatment.
What should I expect following treatment? Immediately after laser exposure the treated
area may turn pink and swell slightly. In the following days the outer layer of skin will flake off as new skin is generated
underneath. In some cases some redness may persist, very similar in feeling and appearance to a sunburn. It is
important to limit sun exposure following treatment. Questions regarding the appropriate use of sunscreen or makeup
should be discussed with your treatment provider.
Recovery times are directly related to depth of peel and your
body's healing response. Please discuss the treatment with your medical provider in order to understand the recovery
time associated with the outcome you desire.
How much do laser peels cost? Peels range from
$200 for a micro peel to $550 for a deep peel on the face. Additional charges apply when you treat the neck and/or chest,
for example.
